Poems
If I can weave one line of healing,
And keep one’s heart from rotting,
I shall know my brothers.
If I can touch a fleeting memory,
And share its gleam,
And breathe life into poems
That echo in dreams,
I shall know my sisters.
*****
In my heart, I know
What I’m doing is right,
But I don’t know
What I’m doing, you know?
But that’s the beauty, you see?
The unknown beckons to me.
I let my heart guide me,
And let God surprise me,
For life is not about me,
But what God does through me.
*****
I prayed for wisdom;
God showed me patience.
I prayed for joy;
God showed me gratitude.
I prayed for peace;
God showed me spirit.
I prayed for balance;
God showed me perspective.
I prayed for understanding;
God showed me empathy.
I prayed for the truth;
God showed me clarity.
I prayed for love;
God showed me connection.
I prayed for a reason;
God showed me purpose.
*****
Home is where my heart is,
And oh, my heart alone
Is home to those whom I love,
And those who love me.
And though I may forget
Those with whom I’ve laughed,
I will never forget
Those with whom I’ve wept.
*****
When you touch the soul of life,
Beauty reveals itself in all things.
Pain becomes beautiful,
And silence becomes a prayer.
*****
Haunting regrets
Flicker in the shadows,
Echo in the silence
As I lay into the night.
My ghosts, they haunt me,
But with humility— transcending,
And from their haunting smoke
Emerges wisdom and understanding.
*****
I was lost in a dark place,
Distorted in awe and was not
Me in my rightful space.
So I destroyed myself
To rebuild myself,
And I am born again,
And my joy is springing,
Tingling
In the light of healing.
*****
When I am still and quiet,
When I feel the ease of autumn,
When I am an owl in the night,
I think nothing,
And yet see everything
Beside the trees,
Beneath the moonlight.
*****
I am the greatest fool I know,
But I stand before my ignorance
With humility and an open mind—
To learn, unlearn, and relearn.
*****
My mind is akin to a scorpion’s tail—
I sting others, I sting myself.
*****
I was a fool,
I spoke in haste,
My words unkind,
A lapse of mind.
I’ve opened old wounds
And opened new ones
From a moment’s anger.
A burning regret,
A haunting flame—
And from the inside out,
I’m eaten alive
By my own words
Meant for another,
From a moment’s anger.
*****
Speaking ill unto another
Merely sickens
The heart of the speaker.
Speaking life unto another
Awakens the hearts
Of both the speaker and the other.
*****
He who has nothing
Has everything to give,
For he has nothing to lose.
He who has everything
Has everything to lose,
For he too has everything to give.
*****
There's a storm in my mind,
And it's whispering lies.
It rages with thunder,
The lightning replies.
It trembles the deep,
Shaking roots from below.
There's power in its voice,
But it’s bitter and cold.
*****
The tempest rages,
The winds do moan, the waves do lash,
But on the far horizon, a sail is seen—
A symbol of faith,
That though the journey be rough,
And the path be perilous,
I shall persevere,
For my struggles are but a prelude
To the serenity
That awaits beyond the storm.
*****
A word,
A gesture,
A smile,
Can calm a restless heart,
And soften the sharpest pain.
*****
Inhale deeply,
And exhale gently.
What we heal inside
Echoes into eternity.
*****
My heart wears a crown of thorns,
But how can I curse them
For making me bleed,
When I sought only to feel alive?
*****
My soul is not for purchase;
Ah yes, my soul is precious,
But never will I sell mine for riches.
I am rich in spirit,
Not in material wishes.
*****
I’m tired of feeling
Other people’s feelings—
Bruising in my belly,
Oozing out my tongue.
I bear the burden
Of love and compassion;
It is a gift and a curse
I must learn to balance.
So for now, I rest.
*****
We speak in hurtful ways,
For we ourselves are hurting.
We speak in ways of healing,
For who we are is beautiful.
And who are we to say to another,
“You are worthless”?
But be worthless of this to say.
*****
Through the eyes of those who hate me,
I see myself as small and frail.
Jealousy and envy fill their hearts,
And aim their arrows at my sail.
Throughout my life, they snickered,
Their words on my back like daggers.
Their scornful looks and bitter tongues
Threatened to knock me off my ladder.
But hate is free energy,
So for the love of God,
I use their hate to fuel the love in me.
*****
I have holes
In the soles of my shoes,
Knee deep in the mud,
My mind in capture,
My heart seeks rapture.
The struggle is real,
But the troubles
I walk upon today
Shall never rule over
My unwavering faith,
Nor shall they fill the holes
In the soles of my shoes.
*****
Let your soul soak in
The garden of healing,
And ascend upon
The dawn of awakening.
You are your own salvation
From all your ignorance
And indifferences.
For there is none to save
Other than ourselves.
But damn, we damn our damned selves.
*****
Sitting quietly, I soak the scene,
Hand on my lips, elbow to knee.
The salty spray, the shimmering sea—
The water whispers secrets,
And the wind's blow invites me to stay.
*****
The place I once knew
Is now swallowed by time—
A garden of laughter
Now covered in grime.
The swings are rusted,
And the trees have grown,
But the echoes of childhood
Still call me home.
*****
I cannot live another day
Living the same day,
Stuck in yesterday’s defeat,
Yearning for tomorrow’s promise.
Why must I be a slave
To the weight of yesterday?
I must move forward
In light of a new place.
*****
The shady brawl over salt—
None know their rightful place,
And in the eye of it all,
The devil shows his face.
*****
In the land of the giving heart,
I see the glory of giving bloom,
Like a flower in the desert sand,
Bringing forth a sweet perfume.
In the joy of giving,
We seize the day’s pure might,
And in return, we receive
The blessings of the night.
But when you give,
Give with an open heart.
For the glory of giving
Is not in the gift itself,
But in the love and joy
It brings to the world.
*****
Upon a mountain, I stand
To watch the world
Stretch out before me,
In shades of purple,
And I am reminded
Of my own set of wings.
And with a deep
And gentle breath,
I stretch them wide
And soar above it all.
Now I’m awake.
Hearing the wind's calm
Itching my palm.
*****
Murky days, restless nights—
I lay awake twisting, turning,
Seeking solace in my mind.
Mother nature, dusk, and embers—
I’ll be forgotten like a leaf in the wind,
Drifting in the foam of memory.
*****
Like a wounded healer, I tend to the pain
Of wounds that still bear a lingering stain.
My scars remind me of a journey unspoken,
And the strength revealed for I have spoken.
Through the hurt I’ve endured, I learned to heal,
And offer sage and solace to those who feel
The same blues that strike within me,
With a voice of passion and a tone of empathy.
*****
Do not curse the sharpened edge of pain;
It strengthens you and makes you bold,
Polishing your soul's bright sheen,
And wisdom gained as you grow old.
Let the flame of pain be a guiding light
Through the darkest nights and darkest days,
For pain and glory are two sides of the same coin,
And together, they shall guide you to your final day.
*****
In the shadows lies a sacred key,
Not of iron, but of awakening,
And with love and understanding, I see
The heart must break to open its wings.
But when the darkness descends,
And the weight of the world
Blends into a single, crushing force,
I feel small, lost, and torn.
But you see, there are others like me,
Beyond tongue, culture, and creed,
And in that love and understanding,
God’s light dwells in me like a tranquil sea.
*****
I know we all have problems,
I know we all need answers.
And no, I don’t have the answers,
But I do have perspective.
We grow through what we suffer through,
And we change by how we respond
To what we go through.
It isn’t that we fear growth and change,
But what we have to let go in order to do that.
Some people will judge you for changing,
They’ll try and keep you from growing.
But you must show God that you have the spirit
To uphold the blessings that you prayed for.
May your heart be open, your spirit unwavering,
And your life a testament to the grace of God.
*****
I searched for the light; God opened my heart.
*****
You who seek wisdom,
See the oneness within.
Here, you shall unveil
A mirror,
Patiently waiting.
*****
If you wish to see
Into eternity,
Close your eyes,
Open your heart,
Soak in silence,
And listen closely.
*****
Be born,
And grow forth,
For life
Is ever-changing,
With what-is
And becoming—
A journey
Everlasting.
*****
Look up at the stars,
And let the heart
Be the root.
Look up at the stars,
And let the heart
Be true.
*****
Listen not with your ears,
But with all your heart.
See not through your eyes,
But through the eyes of God.
Feel beyond the body,
From within your being.
And live not by the words of man,
But the word of God, man.
*****
To be kind without a name,
To be brave without the praise,
To help others without a face,
To forgive without sorrow’s claim.
To be strong without a fight,
To offer hope without a sign,
To seek beauty without a lens,
To be a star without the lights.
To be present without a witness,
To be loyal without a vow,
To show gratitude without reward,
To listen closely without a word.
To grow wiser without a hurry,
To know myself without comparison,
To give freely without a worry,
To love completely without condition.
*****
With great patience,
Plus great discipline,
Comes great changes.
*****
Strength isn’t merely measured
By our ability to hold on,
But by our courage to let go.
*****
Detach from things
That serve you no longer,
And lighten up the load
That weighs down in you.
The purpose is to rise,
Not to descend.
Be enlightened—
Expand and ascend.
*****
Don’t be discouraged by where you are,
But be courageous in where you’re going.
You will never face anything
Beyond your ability to overcome.
*****
Meditate and know what you are not,
For knowledge of self
Is key to the knowledge of God.
*****
How can one
Know anything else,
If one does not know
Knowledge of self?
Know yourself—
Beyond this world.
And as we live in this world,
May we know
The world in ourselves.
*****
Sing as if the world is silent,
Dance as if the world is blind.
Here, you shall hear and see
The universe in you and in me.
*****
I dance alone,
Let my body go
In joy and in grace—
A gift to the soul.
My heart is beating
As one with the music,
Opening myself
Into the heavens.
I move and spin,
A whirling courage;
My worries fade,
My spirit flourishes.
A language of its own
To connect and release—
I am free, I am free;
As I dance, angels sing.
A realm of harmony,
Ecstasy and possibility—
Dance with me,
Dance with me.
*****
What kind of spell is the world up under?
In the shadows of the world, a spell is cast,
A veil of wickedness and deception,
Draining us of our strength and wisdom.
Break free from the chains that cage your mind,
And see through the world’s illusions,
For in the embrace of truth, you shall see
You are the master of your life’s artistry.
*****
Awaken your spirit,
And master your energy.
Self-awareness is key
To spiritual sovereignty.
*****
Speaking with the moon
Of my heart that sings
In perfect solitude
Of my light that springs.
Ah, how bitter it is sweet.
*****
A still flame—
I gaze, it whispers,
As my eyes salivate
With tears,
My precious waters.
And of my stillness,
In spirit, I see
The flame
Looking back at me.
*****
We move and see through life
With empty hearts and minds,
Searching for meaning, lost in the light,
Fighting for crumbs, believing in lies.
But the soul must crave the truth
Like a seared body thirsts for water,
For as water gives life to the body,
Truth gives light to the soul.
*****
Freedom is when nothing owns you—
Not fear that dims your light,
Not people to control your life,
Not money to define your worth,
Not even love that keeps you blind.
*****
Heaven and hell
Are not places we go to;
Heaven and hell
Are what we create
Right where we stand.
*****
Separation is an illusion. Ignorance is our enemy.
*****
May your scars be a testament
To the power and beauty of the spirit,
From the trials you’ve endured,
And pain faced with grace,
Beneath the deepest of still waters,
In empathy’s embrace.
*****
A warm light fell,
Soft and clear—
She arrived, and
Music lifted
Deep within,
And I found
My smile again.
*****
I am beloved,
But hated
All the more.
I am a loving soul
By nature,
So in nature
People love to hate me.
But I understand
Others may never
Understand me.
And that’s the price to pay
In being true to me,
But the value
Is priceless to me.
*****
To seek understanding
From those who are unwilling
To understand me
Is like pouring water into broken glass
As if my words are meaningless,
Crumbling into dirt and ash.
But I am not alone;
There are others with me
In this sea of misunderstanding.
And I will not despair;
I must move forward,
Knowing there are others
Who will listen,
And I will be understood.
*****
Life is
A beautiful disaster,
But as we walk
Through the splinters
Of death, grief,
And loss together,
May we heal
And uplift each other
Through the crossings
Of life’s disasters,
And make beautiful,
Together,
A life to treasure.
*****
Eye of the mourning,
Do not look at me.
I see the light—
A new dawn is breaking.
I feel the warmth
Of the sun’s grand rising.
Eye of the mourning,
Do not resist me.
See what I see,
Feel what I feel.
*****
As we lament the loss of what we hold dear and true,
May we rejoice and be born in the spring of renewal.
*****
We speak in hurtful ways,
For we ourselves are hurting.
We speak in ways of healing,
For who we are is beautiful.
And who are we to say to another,
“You are worthless”?
But be worthless of this to say.
*****
From hums to hymns,
My heart beats an ancient rhythm.
From the realm of silence,
I sing my heart out into the heavens.
*****
When a song enters
Into my heart space,
It becomes a haven,
A blessed place.
Its melody flows,
A sacred remedy,
Mending the silence,
Healing memory.
And I sing, I sing,
I sing courageously,
Pouring light,
Flowing endlessly.
And I sing, I sing—
The heavens reply,
Every chord a promise,
Every song breathes life.
*****
I am burned and forsaken,
My heart — the world won’t listen.
The stage is set against me,
The crowd does none but fool me.
Now I stand at the lip of the ocean,
The sky is my witness, the sand my jury.
Burned and forsaken,
I’m still breathing, I’m still living.
*****
A bird circles round me,
Above me, upon the sky.
We sit here, this tree, and I,
Until only the tree remains.
*****
The art of failure
Is the art to proceed,
For we are to fail
Forward to succeed.
*****
Walk with gratitude in your heart,
And may the universe smile upon you.
*****
The sun is melting into the horizon,
Spilling gold and crimson across the table.
The shadows stretch long,
And laughter skips between us.
The glasses clink, wine our remedy;
Plates steam with the scent of rosemary,
The breeze reeks of salt and earth,
Brushing skin like a lover’s sigh.
The sky bruises into twilight,
Stars begin to prick the velvet;
Candles flicker in their new dominion—
Fleeting, yet in its passing, infinite.
My soul is stitched by the amber glow of dusk,
Grateful for this fleeting eternity,
Where the world's edges blur,
And only the light in my eyes remain.
*****
I am not a great writer,
But with these words
I will do great things.
This is a humble bestowing
Of my love without a face,
As my heart bleeds onto the page,
Opening to myself
A sacred space
From soul to page.
But if my words should go ignored,
At least I give voice
To those who give me their ear.
*****
Some dreams are merely dreams;
Some dreams are doors to eternity.
*****
My eyes close and my soul takes flight
Into the realm of my imagination,
Roaming through fields of golden grain,
Dancing among a gentle rain,
As I marvel at the beauty all around me
For a thousand years.
But oh, I know
This is just my imagination,
And ah, I see
I’m in a fleeting moment
In a sea of infinity.
I treasure my dreams,
But as the dawn breaks, I wake,
Revealing to me
That this life will too be gone
As quick as a dream.
*****
Into the night,
I sit alone
In perfect silence,
Embraced
In a veil of oneness.
And from the darkness,
A stillness emerges,
Transcending
My quiet suffering
Into a great awakening.
*****
God is like the steadfast wind,
Guiding me
Through love’s transcendence,
Into the heart of His presence,
Like a drum beat of all possibilities,
Keeping me open and moving,
Giving me rhythm
To dance and sing my songs,
With the sun and moon,
And the sky and sea as one.
*****
Music, my beloved companion,
Have always been there for me.
When I feel adrift, cold, and scared,
You uplift my spirit.
When I am certain, warm, and brave,
You embolden me.
For when a great song touches my heart,
It is not I who finds it,
But rather it is you who finds me.
*****
Of what use is knowledge
If it is held captive?
Knowledge kept
Is but a fleeting shadow;
Knowledge given
Is a light that shines eternal.
May our hearts and minds
Be not a hoarding place,
But a fountain of wisdom
Flowing freely
To those who thirst for it.
*****
My love, love is all around you,
But if you look too hard,
You’ll miss its unwavering hue.
Be still and let love embrace you—
A gentle current, a tranquil refuge.
*****
When hope feels thin,
And shadows long,
I close my eyes
And look to God.
He lifts me up
With love and grace,
And walks with me
In an unnamed place.
*****
Oh, my Lord, my God,
You are with me when I am lost.
Oh, Jesus, my light, my rock,
I trust in You through fire and frost.
*****
When the world falls dark,
Be the light you wish to see.
Trust the quiet voice within you,
Even when light feels out of reach.
Walk with open eyes, steady heart,
And the courage to shine from within.
For God plants you in dark places,
So that your light may stretch toward heaven.
*****
Golden hues—
The sun ascends,
Bringing light to those where
Shadows blend.
Fleeting moments,
Eternity’s embrace,
Each heart beats
At its own pace.
Be fruitful,
Be thoughtful,
Today’s pain,
Tomorrow’s grace.
*****
In the garden’s vast,
Where my soul roams high,
An ethereal flora
Unfolds and shines.
Heavenly herb,
Nature’s kiss—
A fleeting euphoria,
A tranquil bliss.
Flower of providence,
A dance of smoke;
Hints of purple,
A leaf of gold.
Between the realm of spirit,
And the world of substance,
A celestial bloom, deep and high—
A bridge between
The flesh and the divine.
*****
I didn’t walk through hell
Just to bury my testimony.
I went through hell to become a light
For those still walking through the fire.
*****
The body will perish,
But no, the soul dies not—
You are not the flesh,
But the spirit it houses.
*****
Look up to the vast expanse of the open sky,
And with an open heart and mind, thank God!
*****
Sow the seeds of love,
For anything is possible,
And may the universe
Garden the impossible.
*****
I am empty of thought,
But my heart is filled
With the essence of love—
Like an incense blended,
Like a fragrance melted
In music, joy, and wisdom
From the heavens,
Grounding me
In healing ecstasy.
*****
As much as the journey is bitter,
The fruit I bear is that much sweeter.
*****
If the cosmos were not a lure inside me,
How can I, a man, dream this dream?
*****
Woke up this morning,
Sipping wine with breakfast.
Am I in heaven?
Or is it the wine that's talking?
I close my eyes and take a breath,
The tang of wine upon my tongue.
For just a moment, all is well,
But soon the spell will break.
Till then, I’ll enjoy the moment.
*****
The blessed dewdrop
As I wandered, brushed my cheek—
A moment of grace.
*****
The war
Within ourselves
Manifests
Unto this world;
Therefore,
Make peace, not war
Unto yourself.
Nevertheless—
Fight for what you love,
But must I remind you?
What you love
Can too destroy you!
*****
Fear is a cage. Faith is the key.
*****
Nurture your mind,
And it will bloom
Into a garden of serenity.
Cast your heart upon the sky,
And it will return to you
With the song of love.
*****
My heart is what makes me dangerous,
A force I cannot ignore,
Driving me to speak, to fight, to seek,
Fueled with love, ready for war.
But still, my heart is vulnerable—
Open to hurt, to fear, to pain;
A perfect balance, a double-edged sword
Of safety and danger, joy and strain.
I must be careful, I must be wise
In how I wield its power—
To nurture, protect, and nourish it,
And to never let it sour,
My heart is what makes me dangerous,
A force to be reckoned with;
It’s what makes me whole,
A beautiful, complex source.
*****
God is evident. People are blind.
*****
We are all different,
But one of the same—
Know this:
God makes no mistakes.
For every stone
To each and every star
Is precious,
Not by accident,
But with purpose.
And in a world
Of indifference,
Being you
Makes you different,
And that alone
Makes all the difference
In the world.
*****
Time reveals. Truth prevails.
*****
If we don't respect our gifts and talents,
We renounce ourselves to a greater purpose,
And in the mirror of self-reflection,
Our soul is surface, shallow, and resistant.
May we honor our gifts and talents,
And live to be of greater service,
And in the power of self-awareness,
Our soul moves keen, rich, and persistent.
*****
There’s light in your voice. Speak louder than fear.
*****
Through the depths and debts of hell, I walked alone,
Till heaven's light touched me and delivered my soul.
*****
I long for heaven
Because there I shall give voice
To my silent prayers,
And give thanks
To the grace that carried me.
*****
My life is but a passing dream,
And death, the awakening supreme.
Death is beautiful and holds no bias,
And with open arms, welcomes all of us.
But death is easy, it’s life that’s hard—
Not to say it isn’t scary, but it’s life that scars.
And I’m prepared to die,
For death is but the beginning
Of an eternal sky.
And when I die, my beloved ones,
Do not be woeful because I’m gone,
But be joyous that I was here.
*****
As I’ve come unto this world,
Receiving first my breath,
I shall leave this world,
Surrendering my last goodbye—
Like the fading of a sunset,
Giving back to life.
Ahh, at last, my breath.
*****
And did you live without living in vain?
Yes.
What frightened you most?
To die with a bitter heart;
To live without the hand of my Beloved.
And did you get to hold her hand?
I did.
I am.
*****
The night sighs softly
Against the shore.
Music drifts through the air
Like ember and smoke.
Sand clings to my skin,
Cold and sharp.
Here, I am nothing,
Yet I am one with everything.
*****
I pray my words can bridge a gap
Of language, culture, age, and map.
From scrolls of old to modern screens,
Words move mountains and ignite dreams.
But words are meaningless in itself—
No, know it is our deeds that matter most.
And like lead to gold, and like grapes to wines,
May you transmute darkness into light.
*****
We are all travelers
At the well of mercy,
Each drinking from the same deep spring
At the feet of Jesus—
And no cup returns empty.
We kneel as equals in the dirt:
The rich,
The poor,
The fool,
The wise.
For no name is greater
At the well,
Where all behold
The gift and
The light of life.
*****
From the mud and muggy storms,
I walk a field of weeds and thorns.
The murky sky is akin to my mind—
Too much thought, I dim my light.
I fall, I fumble, I crawl, I crumble,
But I am honored by the struggle.
My spirit bends but shall never break;
From the mud, I know my place.
And by the grace of God,
I can smell the grass again.
*****
Dear Papa,I miss your laughter, your warm embrace,
Your waking smile, your scowling face;
Your wisdom and guidance, anger and silence,
Your love and benevolence, humor, and accent.
My heart is heavy, my soul is sore;
You meant the world to me—and more.
Man, if I could hug you just once more…
You were my rock, my dearest friend,
But you are gone, and I am left
To face this world without you.
And though you may be gone from sight,
You are forever in my heart—a guide, a light.
My heavenly father, my beloved friend,
You were a warrior from God,
And now, you rest,
But my love for you will never end.
I love and miss you so much, Papa.
In the heart of God, may we meet again.
